The Garden of Life

The Garden of Life

How often do you take the time to sit in a beautiful garden and observe what you see around you?

Yesterday I did just that.  I'm in the middle of writing a new training and my mind is constantly jammed up with words and ideas to the point that sometimes I can't hear myself think.   Yesterday I decided enough was enough.  I was concentrating hard on getting the ideas out of my head and into the computer and I scrolled up and read what I had written.  It was a jumbled garbled mess of garbage.   In frustration I walked out of my office and found my way to the kitchen.  I boiled the kettle and as I waited I looked out the window.  The Sun was shining, a gentle breeze was blowing and suddenly I had the urge to escape outside.  I waited for my cup of tea and then headed out into my beautiful tropical garden.   Right now the garden is full of exotic flowers - huge torch gingers, beahive gingers and heliconias as well as gorgeous hibiscus and frangipanni.   I had been missing all this as I toiled away in my office.

There are so many wonderful spots to choose from to sit and observe my garden.   I found one near a gurgling water feature and sat for over an hour really observing what was around me.

It occurred to me how often we become so caught up in the illusion of what is important in our life that we miss the reality of what life really is.   Life is your own personal journey and you have the choice to make of it whatever you want.   I remember a stepping stone that was in one of my Mother's gardens that said "You are closer to God in a garden than on any place on earth".   What that was actually saying is that you become closer to yourself in a garden because when you are surrounded by an explosion of simple beauty it has the power to overwhelm any problems you may have and opens your mind to possibilities.

Take time out to allow simplicity to open your mind to new possibilities and feel your soul opening like a lotus blossom to answer the call.  It's amazing how much you can accomplish when you quieten your mind and listen to your Soul.  After all your Soul is the very essence of you.
